IDF shot dead Palestinian teen during violent riots in Nabi Saleh

IDF shot dead Palestinian teen during violent riots in Nabi Saleh

"An initial examination regarding the incident. found that a small number of bullets were fired. and that no shots were deliberately or directly aimed towards her", part of a brief statement issued by the Israeli army said.

The leaflets reportedly warned Gazans "to refrain from participating in demonstrations and chaos, which will only endanger your lives".

Iranians have begun anti-Israel "Jerusalem Day" rallies across the country to condemn Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

Gaza medics say the Israeli army has killed 120 Palestinians during the weekly Friday protests launched on March 30 in the Gaza Strip, an enclave controlled by the Islamist Hamas group and long subject to grinding Israeli and Egyptian embargoes. Israel has shot literally several thousand Palestinian protesters over the past couple of months, so shooting unarmed protesters is not an unusual thing for them. Both have received political and financial backing from Iran, but also pursue their own agendas.

Israel and Egypt argue that they must maintain the blockade to contain Hamas and other militant groups, which have built up arsenals over the years, including short-range rockets. Israel and Hamas, which seeks Israel's destruction, have fought three cross-border wars since 2008. The day is known in Arabic as "Al Quds Day", a reference to the city's historic Arabic name. Friday's demonstrations are meant to coincide with "Jerusalem Day", a day of protest against Israeli control of the city of Jerusalem.

Demonstrators also chanted anti-American slogans to condemn the USA decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem.

East Jerusalem houses major shrines revered by Muslims, Christians and Jews.

Police also detained two other Palestinians, including a youth, from inside the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

Associated Press writers Ian Deitch in Jerusalem, Ariel Schalit in Kibbutz Nahal Oz and Amir Vahdat in Tehran contributed.
