Tunisia goalkeeper Hassen out of World Cup

The Three Lions were playing free-flowing football from the start of the match against a nervy-looking Tunisia defence and Kane opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

England's World Cup campaign has begun, and the excitement around the team is beginning to build. Gareth Southgate's side recorded a 2-1 victory over Tunisia on Monday night in their Group G opener, with Harry Kane getting the goals and winning the game with a header in stoppage time.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker had not scored at a major tournament after drawing a blank at Euro 2016, but Southgate labeled him a "top, top striker" after his man-of-the-match display.

The Three Lions were backed at [8.4] in-play on the Betfair Exchange with the game seemingly destined for a draw. I don't think he did that.

However, there were two moments after that incident that brought the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in scrutinising light. "And good teams score late".

"That's being a little bit too critical and I'm thinking ahead to the knock-out stages".

The Spurs star proved to be the hero of the hour as he found the back of the net on two occasions, including a stoppage-time victor that spared the blushes of his manager Gareth Southgate.

And he says England's young players need to understand that the overall performance was not good enough, despite picking up the win.

I'm so proud of the lads. Ruben Loftus Cheek was also brought on to replace Dele Alli and the introduction of these players gave England a lift. The way they passed and moved was outstanding. "And he's got a really lovely calm temperament". There was no creativity and the goalie never made a save in the second half.

Kane liked the way England flew out of the blocks at the Volgograd Arena, where they had to rely on character beyond their years.

"Then Kane popped up and scored, but I hope that doesn't cover over the cracks". It was this same hesitance to clear the ball which caused them the game.

"It was Kane who won this match for England", Maaloul told reporters after the England captain's 91st-minute victor had left some of his players in tears at the final whistle.

Kane refused to criticise any of his team-mates and explained that Volgograd was an exceptionally hard venue to play at, given the amount of insects interfering with the players' vision.

With the north Africans happy to take a 1-1 result, England looked as if they were going to pay for their lack of composure as the minutes ticked away.

"You're always proud to see it come off in a game".
