Amy Hennig Left EA In January To Found A New Indie Studio

Speaking with Eurogamer, Hennig revealed that she left EA in January of this year. Now the game's creative director, Amy Hennig, has confirmed that she has parted ways with EA to start her own independent studio and that the upcoming "Star Wars" game has been shelved.

She added: "I haven't been in, but look - I get along with all those people, I consider even the guys on the exec team friends".

Hennig's position at EA has been debated since Visceral Games shut down in October, with her go-to response being that she was "in negotiations".

"I'm not doing anything Star Wars", said Hennig. Hennig states that the project she conceived with her team at Visceral is "on the shelf now", hinting that it needed more than a simple makeover from EA Vancouver.

Read between her carefully chosen words and it's not particularly hard to realize that EA was dead-set on making this game something it wasn't created to be. "Everybody loved what we were doing and I'd love to see us resurrect that somehow, but it's complicated".

"Hennig explained that despite the setbacks from the cancellation of the Star Wars project she was developing - which originally was planned as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure game - she explained that she "[gets] along with all those people [at EA]", but is now "working independently and staying independent".

Hopefully now Hennig is far, far away from the high pressures of the publishing giant, she can continue to create great new video game franchises. She mentioned that the studio was going for a "more open world" style of gameplay.

Her initial comments to Eurogamer suggested the developer may have moved on to a non-Star Wars project. Instead, we will now have to rely on Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars title if Vancouver doesn't do Ragtag justice.

Now we know she is no longer with EA. "It's really not. Y'know, once you go more open world it's such a different game to the one we were making. We wish Amy all the best with what comes next, and we will all be watching with excitement", the company said in a statement to The Verge.
