John Aldridge Lays Into 'Cheat' Neymar Following World Cup Exit

John Aldridge Lays Into 'Cheat' Neymar Following World Cup Exit

But they're out, leaving the unusual quartet of France, Belgium, Croatia and England. Spain were knocked by the host Russian Federation in the round of 16. But the 2018 World Cup has seen a record number of goals off set pieces (68), a record number of penalties awarded (28) and a record number of own goals (11).

Also striking: the final four teams are all European.

The question arises: Will we see a new victor in this year's Fifa World Cup or at least a new finalist?

And on that goals galore note, this World Cup broke the record for longest streak without a goalless draw - 37 games before France and Denmark decided otherwise in their last Group C tie. Belgium are a strong side on paper and play as a total unit.

In the 2nd semi-final, Croatia will face England.

Indeed, they lined up against Belgium with opposition boss Roberto Martinez not well-recognised for his tactical prowess, but it was there they would meet their downfall and a shock exit from the World Cup. England had a comfortable victory against Sweden in their quarterfinal match whereas Croatia had to fight with Russian Federation to win the game in penalties.

Brazil won the last of its five World Cup titles in 2002 with a team led by Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho.

The win over Mexico in the second round cemented them as tournament favourites and it looked like they were just getting into the swing of things, only to be chopped down by Belgium.

So what are the odds that can happen?

Goals from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli mean England will compete their first semi-final in the competition since 1990.

France vs. Belgium promises to be the pick of the two semifinals, because both teams are rapier-quick, packed with talent, favor open, attacking play and have outstanding players - Mbappe for France, Kevin de Bruyne for Belgium - who can make a difference.

Scoring has increased since the start of the World Cup, putting the average at 2.62 goals per match, slightly below the 2014 average of 2.71.

The Chelsea forward showcased his individual skills numerous times against Brazil, especially with a mesmerising dribble from wide in the second half, and the statistics showed that all 10 of his dribbles in the game ended with his team still in possession.
