Manchester City 'not disappointed' over losing Jorginho to Chelsea - Guardiola

City had agreed a deal with Napoli worth just over £44million for Jorginho.

The Manchester City winger, voted PFA Young Player of the Year last season, was a shock omission from Germany's 23-man squad.

Jorginho was tipped to make the move to City, however, the Italy worldwide midfielder opted to reunite with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.

City are scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Bayern Munich over the next 11 days as part of the International Champions Cup.

Manager Pep Guardiola was not expecting any of his World Cup players to join up with the squad but has been boosted by the news that Mendy and Portugal worldwide Bernardo Silva will join the tour later next week.

"Manchester City players and staff departed for the club's summer tour of the USA earlier (on Tuesday)", City confirmed on their official website.

"My advice for all players is they have to go where they want to go, and in the end it would have been a mistake for him and for us if he'd made a decision to come here when he wanted to go with Maurizio and Chelsea".

"It would have been a mistake for him if he came and he wanted to go to Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri". English football received an exceptional player at the end. I have watched him from a distance and seen good performances.

City are still on the hunt for another midfielder and remain linked with Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic, who has signalled his intention to leave the Spanish capital this summer.

On Jorginho, Guardiola added: "I was disappointed (not to sign him)".

"We'll decide on the last day".

The 31-year-old is third choice behind Ederson and Claudio Bravo, and there appears little chance of him playing.

City play Chelsea in the Community Shield on 5 August before opening their league campaign at Arsenal a week later. If they are ready they'll help us and if not we'll wait for them.

"He's one of the most incredible professionals, I've ever met".
