Missouri boat latest: Deaths confirmed as tourist boat capsizes in U.S. state

In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two Hungarian tourists were killed in 2010 when a barge hit a disabled duck boat in the Delaware River.

Lester's boyfriend, Trent Behr, said they saw the body of a woman in the water and helped to pull her into the boat.

And now this - 17 dead at Table Rock Lake, Mo, after a storm caused the Duck Boat to capsize.

Investigators blamed stormy weather for the accident Thursday evening on Table Rock Lake.

In a statement Friday, Boston Duck Tours said "We continuously monitor the weather conditions from our three locations".

Emergency crews were staging at the Branson Belle Dock but the tourist attraction is not involved in the incident, Nielsen said.

Rescue personnel work after an amphibious "duck boat" capsized and sank, at Table Rock Lake near Branson, Stone County, Missouri on Friday in this still image obtained from a video on social media.

A duck boat capsized and sunk during a severe thunderstorm in Missouri, killing at least 11 people, some of them children, authorities said. In their initial assessment, authorities blamed thunderstorms and winds that approached hurricane strength, and a full investigation was underway.

The company has been operating in the city for 40 years and is "a staple of Branson", Smagala-Potts said. "But today we are grieving and crying".

National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Linderberg told the Springfield News-Leader newspaper that 63 miles (101 km) per hour winds were recorded at the Branson airport near the time of the incident. The warning mentioned both locations.

Between 7:16 p.m. and 7:44 p.m.

Lester said the weather had been nice Thursday.

The company Ripley Entertainment owns the capsized boat, having added the "Ride the Ducks" attraction to its roster a year ago. Divers worked through the night on rescue operations, and rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing. He says 14 others survived, but that seven were injured. Two of the four adults were in critical condition while the others were in for minor injuries.

Rader said the boat's captain survived but the driver did not.

The man-made lake where the boat sank is a popular tourist draw located in southern Missouri near the city of Branson, on the border with Arkansas. Dark, rolling waves crash over its front end.

Nicc Hippy wrote, "I believe once the boat capsized they were trapped".

Rader said an off-duty sheriff's deputy working security for the boat company helped rescue people after the accident.

She could not confirm how many crew members were aboard the boat. "He was at every event". Authorities said 17 people, including some children, were killed when the boat sank to the bottom of the lake, according to the Associated Press.

Five people aboard the boat were still unaccounted for as of late Thursday. "We had other boats in the water earlier and it had been a great, sort of calm experience", Pattison said. "The second is that they ride very low in the water".

Originally created by the U.S. Army for use in World War II, DUKWs (called "ducks") were amphibious trucks shaped like boats that ferried ammunition, supplies and equipment from offshore ships to troops stationed on beaches.

Passengers on a nearby boat told ABC's "Good Morning America" that the water became rough as the wind picked up. Boat operators would have known about the warning if there was a radio on board, or if they got a Twitter alert on their phone, though any tour boat company likely would have some kind of communication in place.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol plans to recover the boat, which is under 80 feet of water, later on Friday.
