Thai boys recovering, Seal remembered | Don't Miss This

The 12 young footballers who were saved from a Thai cave after an global rescue effort are mourning a former Navy Seal who died in the operation.

Photos have been released by the Thai Health Ministry that show some of the boys with their heads bowed around a table with a picture of former Petty Officer Saman on it. Officials are specifically anxious about any possible mental duress suffered by the team's coach, 25-year-old Ekkapol "Ake" Chantawong, ABC News reported.

This footage shows a glimpse at the boys in their beds, as well as teary-eyed parents and other relatives waving at them from behind a nearby glass wall.

"When the boys were hungry, coach Ek shone his torchlight up towards the stalactites, telling them to drink the water dripping down", Banpot Promthep told reporters late Thursday.

The rescue bid was also lauded for the hard, long hours and teamwork between highly-skilled Thais and foreigners.

Kunan was awarded the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant medal and posthumously promoted to Lieutenant Commander.

France play Croatia in the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday, at 10 p.m.in Thailand.

The youngsters and their coach had been invited to the final of the 2018 World Cup by its organiser, Fifa, but had to decline on medical grounds.

CHIANG RAI, Thailand-Twelve Thai boys and their soccer coach rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand are recovering well from their ordeal and will be discharged from hospital next week, health minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said on Saturday.

The concerns also extend to the boys' coach, who led the Wild Boar youth soccer team into the cave last month and has received criticism from outsiders.

The footage of the boys from a Saturday news conference shows them still wearing surgical masks, a safeguard against infection since the last of them was pulled from a cave on Tuesday after being trapped for nearly three weeks.

All 13 were brought to safety over the course of a three-day rescue, organized by Thai navy SEALs and an global team of cave-diving experts.

About 4,000 volunteers were on Sunday taking part in a clean-up of the area around the Tham Luang cave.

They were found nine days later, and the complex rescue took several days to plan and more than 100 volunteers to complete.

Authorities have closed the cave for now but hope to reopen it later as a tourist attraction - with sufficient safeguards in place to make sure no one gets trapped again.
