Disney Provides Some Pricing Details For Direct-to-Consumer Streaming Service

Interestingly, anything that's already licenced to Netflix - including older Marvel and Star Wars movies up to and including Ant Man And The Wasp and Solo - will remain on the rival site, with Disney apparently having no plans to steal them back anytime soon.

Disney has tabled a bid for the film and television assets of Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox Inc for $71bn and said in August 2017 it would develop its own streaming services to grab digital viewers.

Disney is producing nine different movies for the streaming service with budgets ranging from $20 to $60 million.

"... We're also moving forward with brand new Marvel content, and as I just noted, the Fox acquisition brings even more opportunity to create original programming for this [digital] platform", he added, promising to reveal more streaming details at an investor presentation in the near future. Iger made it clear that this service will not be huge right at the start, but it would continue to grow over the months and years following its launch. Disney parks and resorts reported yet another strong quarter, with revenue increasing 6% to $5.2 billion.

However, a recent New York Times report says Disney has been working on a live-action Star Wars show, which will be exclusive to its streaming service.

Actor and director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) is now hard at work executive producing and writing a live-action Star Wars TV series for Lucasfilm and Disney's new direct-to-consumer streaming service. Now the trick for Disney is to make their homegrown streaming services appealing to their fans, and the general public, while still maintaining their current revenue levels from more traditional distribution.

Despite record-breaking box office performances from titles like "The Incredibles 2" and "Avengers: Infinity War", Disney's third-quarter earnings missed analyst projections, the company announced on Tuesday, reporting earnings of $1.87 per share. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for adjusted earnings of $1.97 (roughly Rs. 133) per share.

That is unless he was one of Thanos' victims who also vanished into dust.

Operating profits in its consumer products unit, the smallest division, slipped 10 percent on an 8 percent drop in revenue - due mainly to lower licensing revenue from "Spider-Man" and "Cars".
