Harley-Davidson Set To Introduce A 250-500cc Motorcycle In India Soon

Harley-Davidson is facing shrinking sales in its home market of the United States, and is hoping to broaden its appeal to new customers in a bid to invigorate sales. Harley-Davidson is also changing its retail strategy and expanding its push internationally following declining USA sales.

For growing markets in Asia and India, Harley is planning new small-displacement (250 to 500 cc) motorcycles through an alliance with an Asian manufacturer.

The company's growth plan through 2022 includes attracting those who have never owned a motorcycle, developing smaller urban dealerships and "unlocking new markets and segments", the company said in a statement Monday. Electric motorcycles are now priced significantly higher than similar performing internal combustion models, but Harley-Davidson predicts the market will reach cost parity as early as 2030.

As part of the strategy, Harley-Davidson plans to offer its most comprehensive lineup of motorcycles, competing in numerous largest and fastest growing segments with a full portfolio of motorcycles across a broad spectrum of price points, power sources, displacements, riding styles and global markets.

Levatich acknowledged "unfortunate attention" after the company announced it would increase production in foreign countries, following retaliatory European Union tariffs prompted by tariff threats of President Donald Trump.

The company isn't exactly leaving the land of fossil fuels behind though - out of 100 new bikes planned for release in the near future, the LiveWire plus two more affordable models to be released in 2021-22 are planned.

At the same time, riders are getting older.

It also plans to add "lighter, smaller and more accessible products" through 2022 in its electric motorcycles portfolio. "It's risky to think that motorcyclists aren't open-minded about other products and other brands", Levatich said.

In 2017, British motorcycle maker Triumph Motorcycles and Indian two-wheeler company Bajaj Auto announced plans to work together in the manufacture of mid-capacity motorcycles. "There are a lot of different adventure-touring products out there but certainly our style and our approach is truly Harley-Davidson". With India being at the fore of it, we can expect Harley-Davidson to reach out for the people who fancied the brand only from bedroom wall posters and make them ride it in reality. That will give the company more broad distribution in the largest and fastest-growing motorcycle markets.
