Keller @ Large: Impeachment Of President Trump Should Be Last Resort

US President Donald Trump has made a suggestion to make plea bargains illegal in the wake of his former lawyer Michael Cohen admitting a host of financial crimes.

"I don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job", the president told "Fox & Friends".

"You would see - you would see numbers that you wouldn't believe in reverse", he added.

The US President then launched into a rambling statement on job creation and other economic progress he said had been made during his presidency.

"I regret that I wasn't clear enough to the Post", Davis said.

Mr Trump was responding to a question on his mounting legal woes after his former attorney Michael Cohen said under oath that Mr Trump instructed him to commit a crime by breaking United States campaign finance laws.

Lawmakers from Trump's own Republican Party warned the president they would not confirm a new attorney general if Sessions - a former senator - was sacked.

As with so much else that is plaguing the president right now, the charges would involve the $130,000 Michael Cohen paid Stormy Daniels in 2016, to ensure that she would not go public with the story of her affair with Trump. One woman was a porn star and another, a Playboy model.

Trump has insisted that he only found out about the payments after they were made, despite the release of a September 2016 taped conversation in which Trump and Cohen can be heard discussing a deal to pay McDougal for her story of a 2006 affair she says she had with Trump.

"Campaign violations are considered not a big deal, frankly", he said.

In July, Cohen released audio tapes of him and Mr Trump allegedly discussing one of the payments before the election.

Or Mr Trump could fire Mr Mueller and shut down the investigation.

"I've been very consistent about this, I don't want to cross paths with ongoing criminal investigations", Graham said.

"I put in an Attorney-General who never took control of the Justice Department", Mr Trump said.

Democrats, meanwhile, are trying to dampen expectations from their liberal base of taking on the president for fear that impeachment talk will cause Republican voters to rally around Trump in November.

The US president lauded the 69-year-old Manafort for leaving his fate to a jury rather than striking a plea deal - a move that has sparked speculation Manafort hopes for a pardon.

Asked if he was considering a pardon for Manafort, Trump told Fox only that he has "great respect for what he has done, in terms of what he has gone through".

"Once in a while, and that is very, very rarely, Trump does what he is told", Barbara Res, a former Trump Organization construction manager, told the site.

Among other things, the Dossier claimed that Trump hired two prostitutes to urinate on him in a Moscow hotel room, when then-businessman Trump visited the Russian capital in 2013.
