Photo of Asia Argento and accuser in bed surfaces

Asia Argento has withdrawn from her involvement as one of the curators of the 2018 Le Guess Who? festival in the Netherlands after the NY Times surfaced documents alleging she secretly paid off actor Jimmy Bennett after he accused her of sexually assaulting him.

In a statement, Argento says she never had a sexual relationship with her accuser Jimmy Bennett, strongly denying the New York Times article. Argento denied the allegations while claiming that her late boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, had paid hush money to avoid "possible negative publicity", but many people have pointed out inconsistencies in Argento's response. "Time will clarify things and perhaps she will be exonerated, but if true, there is no lens that makes it better", she said. The texts TMZ published read, in part, "I had sex with him it felt weird".

In the state of California, it is considered statutory rape if an adult has sex with someone under the age of 18, regardless of whether the act was consensual or whether the minor initiated the act.

Bennett was two months past his 17th birthday at the time of the alleged encounter, while Argento was 37.

Weinstein's lawyer commented Monday on the claims against Argento, saying it should cast doubt on the allegations she has made against the disgraced producer.

"I have been heartsick over the recent allegations against Asia Argento".

"Child sexual assault is a heinous crime and is against all that I and the MeToo movement stands for", she continued. Argento also reveals that Bennett said she was her "sexual fantasy" since he was 12, and she shared a photo with her friend of a note Bennett wrote her after they had sex. Another text reads, "It wasn't raped (sic) but I was frozen". "Anthony was afraid of the possible negative publicity that such person, whom he considered unsafe, could have brought upon us". Anthony was afraid of the possible negative publicity that such a person, whom he considered unsafe, could have brought upon us", she claimed, further maintaining that, "We chose to deal compassionately with Bennett's demand for help and give it to him.

Argento allegedly agreed to pay him $380,000 over the course of a year and a half, which reportedly started with an initial payment of $200,000 made in April.

According to Milano, 45, the serious claims against Argento does not mean she wasn't sexually assaulted herself. "Anthony personally undertook to help Bennett economically, upon the condition that we would no longer suffer any further intrusions in our life", the statement said.

As the likes of Miro Sorvino and Rose McGowen reacted with horror and sorrow over the Argento accusations and the potentially damning settlement and the LA County Sheriff's office look to contact Bennett, Judd cut straight to the heart of the larger matter at hand.
