-Police officers arrested the driver of the vehicle, who is in his late 20s, at the scene and led him away in handcuffs.

Three people were injured after the silver Ford Fiesta was driven through cyclists and pedestrians during the morning rush hour before smashing into a protective barrier on a lane used for accessing Parliament.

Hindustan Times, owned by HT Media Ltd, is one of India's largest publications that provides unbiased news, analysis and features on politics, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and more. Masood stabbed a police officer to death before he was shot dead in a courtyard outside of Parliament.

"The vehicle drove at speed..."

The UK's anti-terrorism chief has confirmed that one woman was being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, one man has been discharged from a hospital and another was treated at the scene. "Whether that area outside should be pedestrianized further is a matter that will be discussed, no doubt, between the parliamentary authorities, us, the intelligence agencies, the local authorities, and the mayor", she said.

Security arrangements at Parliament have progressively tightened since 2001.

Stefan Rousseau/ZUMA Press/NewscomIn the aftermath of a auto attack outside the Houses of Parliament in London, U.K. officials have proposed making the area a car-free zone.

Westminster station has been closed for both entry and exit due to the security alert, Transport for London said. "There was a loud bang from the collision and a bit of smoke", Ewelina Ochab told The Associated Press.

"I was walking on the other side (of the road)".

Armed police swooped into the area after the incident was reported at 7:37 a.m., arresting the auto driver and cordoning off streets surrounding the heart of Britain's government.

The cordon has been extended past the Cenotaph on Whitehall - a five-minute walk from the scene at Old Palace Yard.
