RAF families treated to high-speed Broadband
Posted by Luke in Broadband Guides, Latest Broadband News on April 30, 2012
Yorkshire based station RAF Leeming have recently completed updating service families’ broadband connection from basic dial-up to top quality high-speed wireless connection.
The rural area has been subjected to inadequate internet connection in the past, with many homes still working from the primitive dial-up connection well into the more recent years of the twenty first century, but thanks to a new scheme being put in place by the North Yorkshire-based RAF station, the families of those in the force are now enjoying some of the best Broadband connection available.
Local broadband provider I Love Broadband agreed to work with RAF Leeming to supply its residents with a choice of two bespoke broadband deals. The two taylor-made packages were designed with the RAF family homes in mind; one package is perfect for providing a singular internet device with 5Mb download for £14.99, and the other offering, ideal for family usage, is capable of 10Mb at £19.99.
Also onboard with the respectable scheme is NYnet , a North Yorkshire based project that provides public and private sector broadband products and solutions. As a rural venture, NYnet’s expertise are valued in assuring that the county isn’t left behind because of developing technology.
Group Captain Tony Innes, RAF Leeming’s Station Commander has made his family’s broadband connection one of his “key projects” since arriving at Leeming eighteen months ago and being unsatisfied with what was on offer.
A positive and intended outcome of the development means that deployed personnel can contact loved ones via the internet, now equipped with top of the range broadband connection, making the most of the amenities the age of technology has made available.
The scheme is widely seen as a commendable undertaking as it assembles quality services to approach a fantastic cause. It is addressing broadband capability as an appropriate necessity of modern life, showcasing the technology’s ability and providing it to those who truly deserve it.
Broadband & Phone Services are Under Pressure from the Olympics
Posted by Christine in Latest Broadband News on April 21, 2012
In addition to spectators, the number of international journalists attending the Olympic Games in London this summer are expected to exceed seven hundred thousand.
The increase in the capital’s population during the Games means there will be hundreds of thousands of people whose phones will struggle to pick up reception. It is therefore arguable that residents ensure they are signed up to
broadband & phone packages that offer high speed connections before Olympic tourists descend on the city.
Journalists sharing astounding successes, beating the odds and the saddest disappointment with their fellow countrymen will require a higher level of infrastructure when the Olympics begin at the end of August.
There will definitely be a surge in the necessity for reliable broadband during the Olympic Games. Reports suggest that London’s population will increase by 10 percent during August and September, meaning that planned improvements to broadband and phone services developed in some rural areas have taken a back seat to development in the capital, as broadband providers attempt to fulfill the anticipated demand.
With heavier web traffic, some businesses could be affected. Increasing dependence on conference calling, cloud computing, and video streaming requires reliable and consistent broadband connections. Recent research from the IDC finds that broadband use is set to double year on year from 2012 onwards and the Olympics arguably marks the beginning of this increase. Businesses will ultimately be demanding consistent network services that deliver high quality uploading and downloading services regardless of how many visitors come to the capital. Broadband companies are striving to ensure this is so.
With over six million tickets available, the impact of the Olympics will be astounding. The lasting impact on London is yet to be seen but BT, Virgin Media and a host of mobile companies are prioritising development in urban areas to make sure that London is a shining example of what a twenty-first century city should be while the whole world is watching.
BT launch new ISP offer
Posted by Jeremy in Latest Broadband News on August 29, 2011
Openreach, the part of BT that is held accountable for organising access to the local BT telecoms and broadband network is offering a new incentive for ISP’s, relating to their copper connections, in as bid to encourage users to return to BT’s phone and broadband services. The main gist of the offer is that BT will offer a financial reward to Internet Service Providers who are able to acquire new lines where old liners have been stopped in the past.
Openreach believe that this offer will give them a chance to take back business from rivals such as Virgin Media and Sky, because anyone signing up with an ISP that is using the Openreach network will effectively be coming to BT. The following is a statement released by BT Openreach in relation to the offer:
“This offer is intended to incentivise Communication Providers (CPs) to utilise lines that have previously been installed but where use has now been stopped or to provide additional lines to existing customer premises. It is based on incremental growth net of early cancellations above a pre-determined Background Threshold run-rate and for each incremental line CPs will receive a £50 incentive payment. Start orders and new lines to a premise will be validated to ensure that there is not a current cease or stop order within the last 3 months to demonstrate genuine incremental growth.”
Companies that sign up to this scheme will be armed with a list of copper telephone lines that Openreach has identified as being stopped for over three months, which will give the ISP’s a chance to target the right audience.
Of course, at the moment the focus is often on super fast broadband, and if this is more the sort of service you are looking for, then you have to be sure that you are signing up with the right provider. At the moment you can find some great review sites online. For instance, if you are considering going for an Orange broadband plan, all you have to do is to search for Orange broadband reviews and you will find the sorts of sites you need.
